Wow, so many emotions right now. First, thank you to everyone who helped out this election season. It was an honor to work side by side with so many wonderful people. So many of you gave so much of your time to help with this election, both locally and nationally.
Let me start by congratulating our winners, especially MJ Shannon who flipped the 117th district back to blue!!! It was inspiring to watch him and his young team work so hard and prove that that hard work pays off. We look forward to him representing part of Orange in Hartford and working with Mary and James who both won re-election, not that there was any doubt ; ).
We hope that we take back the House so our Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro will once again be Appropriations Chair and give us some hope for the next 4 years. We know Senator Chris Murphy will always work to protect our rights in the Senate.
And please send your congratulations to Etan Hirsch for a hard fought battle with a tough incumbent candidate. For those of us who have been in his shoes, the ouch stings. He ran a great campaign and we hope Etan continues to fight not only for the residents of Milford but for all of us and that we continue to see him in our community.
As for the national election, thank you to the residents of Orange for understanding the assignment and voting for the Harris/Walz ticket. It was extremely close here in Orange and we can analyze it at our November meeting. I will note as I listened to some of the morning news commentators, it seems many communities nationally are still not ready for a woman president. And in defense of the Harris/Walz team, four months to campaign for president just isn't enough time especially given that in history only 4 sitting VPs have ever won the Presidency.
Let's take a deep breath and just hope that the safeguards of our government can withstand another 4 years of a Trump presidency. We did it once and we can do it again.
